The Director of a Protector Association in Fuerteventura charged on the presumption of animal abuse.

Stemming from two reports, at the beginning of the month of July the Local Police of Puerto del Rosario and the municipal veterinarian, together with the legal authority performed a search and registration of the installations of an animal protector society in the neighborhood of Los Estancos (Fuerteventura). In the installations, 96 dogs in inadequate hygienic and sanitary conditions were found; some of them had signs of illnesses and malnutrition, wounds and parasites.

The owner of the installations has been charged on the presumption of animal abuse. The Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (Service for the Protection of Nature, SEPRONA) has transferred the police findings to the competent District Court of Puerto del Rosario, as well as the Public Prosecutor for the Environment in Las Palmas.

85 dogs have confiscated and placed under the care of the municipal authority, with the goal of identifying the possible owners who had reported their disappearance or theft.
