A Court investigates the ‘correbous’ of Ampolla

The administrative-litigation Court 1 of Tarragona has allowed the processing of an apeal made by Asociación Contra la Tortura y el Maltrato Animal (Actyma) [Association against animal torture and abuse] about the 'correbous' celebrated in Ampolla in June 2012, after the Generalitat [Regional Government] had closed the case.

These festivals consist of releasing the animals in a semicircle that redirects them to jump into the sea, where they are recovered thanks to the use of ropes from a barge. ACTYMA reported that this method is not included in the Catalan law of 2010 on animal protection and it constitutes a bad practice for recovering the bulls via the use of a noose around the neck with the consequent danger of asphyxia. The animalist group also denounced the participation of minors under 14 years of age, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, the use of sticks and the injuries suffered by some bulls.
