The European Encyclopedia of Animal Welfare, EEAW, is an open-access multidisciplinary and bilingual project for the publication of academic texts about themes of animal welfare with the intention of making these accessible to a wider public.
Its field of research is centered on themes of ethics and animal welfare in a political, ethical and legal context at the international level, with the intention of broadening its research also into cultural and social studies. Fundamental themes of the natural sciences as well as veterinary sciences and etology are also covered.
The EEAW is a project of the FEWD (Research Center of Ethics and Science in Dialogue) of the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Vienna and the idea comes from two ambitious OpenAccess academic projects, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
