On May 15 and 16, 2013, Dr. Benjamín Martín and Dr. Paloma Araujo, taught the modules “Concepts of Nutrition” and “Vegetarian Diets” in the Master in Animal Law and Society in the UAB. Dr. Martín is a specialist in Pediatrics, Child-Care, Gastroenterology and Child Nutrition, the Head of the Gastroenterology and Child Nutrition Unit in the Hospital of Terrassa (Terrassa, Spain) and Numerary Member of the Sociedad Española de Investigación en Nutrición y Alimentación en Pediatría (SEINAP, Spanish Society of Research in Nutrition and Food in Pediatrics). Dr. Paloma Araujo is the Coordinator of the Neonatal Unity of the Hospital of Terrassa.
The classes by Doctors Martín and Araujo, in the Master in Animal Law and Society, dealt with vitally important topics about Nutrition and Vegetarian Diets, Classification of Nutrients, Vitamins, Minerals and Energy. The goal of this module is to provide students interested in following a vegetarian, vegan, lacto-vegetarian or ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet with the tools and the scientific information necessary to properly plan their diet. The American Dietetic Association affirms that these types of diets, when adequately planned, are healthy, nutritionally sufficient, and provide benefits for health in the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
