Animal Welfare on the Dining Table - The Free Lunch

Activity type

The Humane Society International in cooperation with Compassion in World Farming, Beyond GM, Food for Life Global and the European Parliament's Sustainable Food Systems Group is delighted to invite you to The Free Lunch on the Esplanade of the European Parliament, in Brussels, September 29.

You may have heard that there is no such thing as a free lunch. However, we are offering just that. Not only is this lunch free from animal products, additives and GMOs, it will free of waste by using surplus vegetables. Choosing seasonal, locally grown, delicious, plant-based meals frees up land, water and other resources, such as fossil fuels, used to produce animal products. Plant-based meals free biodiversity from the threats of industrial food production, and free animals from lifelong confinement and suffering. And, making regular plant-based meal choices can help free you from the increased risk of dietary related non-communicable diseases.

Nothing will be wasted and additional food will be prepared and donated to the refuges based in the Maximilian Park, in Brussels.

This initiative is also promoted by Paul, Mary, and Stella McCartney, “We are supporting The Free Lunch because it is essential that politicians adopt measures that promote healthy and sustainable food consumption: more plant-based foods and fewer animal-based foods.”

To help highlight just some of the issues at the core of The Free Lunch here are some downloadable leaflets on major themes that everyone should learn more about. Check them out at: - and don't forget to share widely!

Join us on Tuesday 29th from 12:00 to 14:30 and break free with a free lunch!

The Free Lunch is being facilitated by the kind help of Elite Events, Dolma - Restaurant végétarien, Bakkerij Filip, the Gleaning Network Belgium and Feedback.
