On 17,18 and 19 October 2014, the Salon ANIMALADDA will take place in the Sala Sant Jordi Club of Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, organized by the Asociación de Defensa de los Derechos del Animal (Association for the Defense of Animal Rights, ADDA), which is an NGO created in 1976, the pioneer in Spain on focusing societal interest on the defense of animals through protecting their rights.
The Salon ANIMALADDA is a loud wake up call for the consciences of all the citizens at the start of each academic course, as it highlights the importance of eradicating the scourge of companion animal abandonment, promoting adoption and responsible ownership. Each year, many cats and dogs who had been waiting for a second chance are adopted during this event into the bosom of a family that will treat the animals as they are, sentient beings, with the Law itself is beginning to recognize.
The great dynamism, enterprising spirit and generosity of Manel Casas and Carmen Méndez, cofounders of ADDA and Directors of ANIMALADDA, have made this event possible which each year receives thousands of visits, with a great number of activities to improve the link between animals and humans. From here we wish to give them and their team our most gracious thanks for having invited the Master in Animal Law and Society of the UAB to participate in ANIMALADDA with a stand (no. 6), where we can inform all who visit us on the activities of the Master and the (SGR 1114) Research Group ALS (=Animals, Law, Society) that we carry out to influence the improvement of the protection of Animals and Defense of their rights and, specifically, in trying to insert companion animals as another “citizen”, through policies of responsible ownership awareness and through suppressing the barriers to allow for a harmonious co-existence between humans and animals.
From here we encourage everyone to go in order to exceed the number of visitors from other years and increase the number of companion animal adoptions. This is the success that ANIMALADDA achieves each year and we are sure that they will achieve it with even greater success this year.
