The WTO finds in favor of the EU ban on the sale of seal products

In November 2013 Canada and Norway appealed the decision by the World Trade Organization (WTO) which allowed the European Union to prohibit the importation of seal meat, oil, fats, organs and pelts. The EU had prohibited the sale of these products in 2009, indicating the suffering that these animals suffered during their hunt. The Appellate Body of the WTO has found in favor of the EU, in a finding that establishes animal welfare should be prioritized, for reasons “of public morals”, over commercial interests.
