Man Sentenced for the Crime of Animal Abuse for Hitting a Puppy

The Criminal Court of Segovia has sentenced a man to three months for the crime of animal abuse for hitting a puppy in April 2010. As a consequence of the blows, the puppy suffered serious contusions in various areas of the body, especially in the head, and totally losing its vision in its right eye.

The forensic report recognizes that in the moment of the acts, the aggressor, a 90 year-old man, showed cognitive and volitional deficits that reduced his faculties. As a result, the sentence appreciates the incomplete grounds for exemption due to psychiatric alteration.

The perpetrator must pay a fine of 180 Euros and provide an indemnity to the protection association that took charge of the animal for the costs of its recovery.
