Professor Dr. Herón GORDILHO in the Master in Animal Law and Society of the UAB: Animal Law in Brazil
On Thursday and Friday March 13-14, starting at 3:30 p.m., the class entitled Animal Law in Brazil by Professor Dr. Heron Santana GORDILHO will take place in Aula 1 of the Faculty of Law of the UAB.
Dr. GORDILHO is an Environmental Prosecutor in Brazil and Professor of the Federal University of Bahía, a Collaborating Entity with the Master in Animal Law and Society of the UAB and a place where students may go to perform their internships. Author of numerous articles and books on Environmental Law and Animal Law, Professor GORDILHO is also the Coordinator of the Núcleo Interdisciplinar de Pesquisa e Extenso em Direito Ambiental e Direito Animal (Interdisciplinary Group for the Research and Extension of Environmental Law and Animal Law, NIPEDA); founder of the Animal Abolitionist Institute in Aula 1 of the Faculty of Law of the UAB and Editor of the first animal law journal in Latin America: Revista Brasileira de Direito Animal
Renowned as one of the greatest promoters of the rights of the great apes, he has trained many professionals and researchers in Animal Law. One of Professor GORDILHO´s greatest accomplishment was obtaining Habeas Corpus for the chimpanzee, Suiça, from the Zoo in Bahía, Brazil. .
